After all, play has existed long before our time and is likely to continue long after we are gone. Our parents played, we played, our children played, and future generations will play as well. Play, on the other hand, is more difficult to define. Depending on who is playing, what they are playing with, and how they are playing with it, play can be described in a variety of ways. However, regardless of how play is defined, early childhood research agrees that all types of play are good to children.

Many toys may be used for both structured and open play, depending on how they are used, and both types of play have advantages.
